Hi, I’m David! I love video, games, and video games!

NOTE: This is an extremely old portfolio website which I desperately need to update! You might have found it due to playing some of my games, so thanks for being interested in me and my work. I’m leaving it up until I find some spare time to update it, but check out The First Tree and Game Dev Unlocked websites for more info on my current projects! Anyway, here’s my old description:

Whether it was making space hotel video games or fake nature documentaries with my friends, I’ve been obsessed with creating things since I can remember. When I turned 15 I was asked by my high school to help shoot the county school board meetings, and from then on I knew I wanted to be in digital media creation the rest of my life. I studied Media Arts at Brigham Young University, where I was awarded several scholarships and merit awards. I now work full-time as an interactive designer who focuses on cutting-edge tech, and I love it. When I’m not animating, editing, or coding, I love skateboarding, going to concerts, and drinking gourmet sodas.

Probably the best way to sum up my skill set is “a very deep knowledge of interactivity and motion design with a thorough understanding of everything else multimedia.” I may be a renaissance man, but I’m an expert in each of my fields.

Video Production

Editing is my first love. I’m passionate about video engineering and color correction as well.

Interactive

Not only have I released my own game on Steam, but I also do VR, level design, and interactive kiosks.

Design

I have plenty of experience making clients happy with my print, web, motion, and UI design.

PORTFOLIO

Video Production

In 2009, I was hired as a video engineer for BYUtv, a cable station broadcasted to over 65 million subscribers. Being able to work alongside Sony, ESPN, and CNN was an invaluable experience. I learned to repair and maintain high-end broadcasting equipment, along with how to use vector scopes and waveform monitors to color correct everything from talk shows to college football games. Soon after, I helped earn a regional Emmy in cinematography for a short film titled Dante due to my color correction expertise. In 2011, I was hired as an editor for my alma mater, Brigham Young University, where I helped shoot and edit high-budget commercials and documentaries promoting the university. Now I work at the LDS Motion Picture Studio, where I started as an assistant editor and colorist working on film productions and now work full-time officially as an interactive designer.

Interactive

At my current job, our studio’s reputation comes from making the most exciting cutting edge interactive content available, mostly for visitors’ centers and exhibitions. Whether it’s creating a virtual world with an Oculus Rift or animating AAA productions alongside Pixar and Disney Interactive alumni, I’m always up to the challenge of creating something that’s a cut above the rest. Even after work, I love putting in sweat and tears into my personal projects, like my game Home is Where One Starts…, which was released on Steam to stellar reviews.

Design

Whether it’s print, web, motion, UX, or even exhibit design, I have a solid record of making clients happy. A director of exhibitions recently remarked that a Rome visitors’ center design book I led was “one of the greatest design documents he had seen.”  I not only incorporated layers of quality graphic design, fabrication requests, and approval processes, but I worked with building engineers and architects to make sure everything turned out perfectly. I’ve contributed innumerable graphical elements to various websites, pamphlets, and exhibitions, and I always shoot for a modern, sharp look that makes the user and client happy.

Here are some of the groups I’ve worked with:

“David is the most dependable person on the planet! He will tackle anything you toss at him, and if he doesn’t know how to do it he will learn it quickly and deliver something amazing. On top of his great animation, video and layout design skills he is very proactive in getting the work done. It’s very rare to find a person that is willing to shift and move with a project as fast as David.
